Hardmenstore.com announced on August 27 that it will voluntarily recall three of its products, according to a press release posted on the FDA website.   One thousand lots of 72HP, Evil Root, and Pro Power Max have been recalled because they contain the unlisted drug sildenafil.

Sildenafil is the active ingredient in Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs.  The FDA cautions:

Sildenafil may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. Additionally, the product may cause side effects, such as headaches and flushing.

Evil Root, 72HP, and Pro Power Max are marketed as dietary supplements and also as sexual supplements.  As with Herbal Give Care LLC’s recently recalled Esbelder line, their unlisted ingredients may make them dangerous to some consumers, especially those taking prescription drugs containing nitrates.

Possible side effects include:

  • headache
  • flushing
  • dyspepsia
  • nasal congestion
  • impaired vision, including photophobia and blurred vision

Rare but serious adverse effects include:

  • priapism
  • severe hypotension
  • myocardial infarction (heart attack)
  • ventricular arrhythmias
  • stroke
  • increased intraocular pressure
  • sudden hearing loss

The FDA advises users to report any adverse events or quality problems to their MedWatch Adverse Event reporting program.
